Kristina Jonutytė is the 2023 Caroline von Humboldt Award winner
Dr. Kristina Jonutytė was awarded the Caroline von Humboldt Prize 2023 on october 26, 2023.
Jonutytė works as a lecturer at Vilnius University and Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas. Jonutytė's dissertation on socio-economic aspects of urban Buddhism has won several awards. Her HU project, which she will realize as an award winner with Manja Stephan-Emmrich, Professor at the Institute of Asian and African Studies, is entitled "Buryat belonging" and deals with the Buryat minority in Russia and their role in the current Ukraine war.
The Caroline von Humboldt Award is presented annually to an excellent postdoctoral researcher from Germany or abroad. First announced in 2010, it is one of the most highly endowed awards of its kind in Germany. The prize money is intended to enable the award winner to carry out a research project as part of a research stay at Humboldt-Universität.
The award ceremony took place on Wednesday, October 26, 2023, 6 pm in the Festsaal in Luisenstr. 56 of the HU, and was opened by Prof.in Dr.in Julia von Blumenthal, who was unfortunately unable to attend, via video message. The Vice President for Budget and Human Resources, Niels Helle-Meyer, also welcomed the guests on behalf of the Humboldt University Executive Board.
Two guests of honor gave speeches to mark the tenth anniversary. Dr. Ina Czyborra, Berlin's Senator for Science, Health and Care, praised above all the radiance of excellent female academics in Berlin. Prof. Dr. Susanne Baer, who was awarded the first Caroline von Humboldt Professorship in 2013, also spoke from a personal perspective, emphasizing how important these ten years of promoting women had been for Humboldt University and calling for further "courage" on the part of female academics. Prof. Dr. Christoph Brumann was present as the laudatory speaker for the Caroline von Humboldt Award winner.
The event was accompanied by music from the Berlin Cello Trio, and the evening ended with a champagne reception after the award ceremony.
