On 26 November 2013, the Caroline von Humboldt Prize was awarded for the fourth time.

Noa Shenkar PhD, Marine Biologist at Tel Aviv University, Israel, was chosen by an international jury to be the laureate in 2013.

Noa Shenkar researches ascidians and invertebrates to analyse and explore their potential as bio-indicators. She received the award for her research on the topic of "Ascidians (Chordata, Ascidiacea) as bio-indicators of the marine environment".
