During the panel discussions, specific aspects of sexualised discrimination and violence are discussed.
“Fighting Violence against Women* Together” on 25 November 2013

On 25 Novmber 2013 and thus for the third time, the topic of sexualised discrimination and violence was discussed at a panel discussion titled “Fighting Violence against Women* Together” (“Gemeinsam gegen Gewalt an Frauen*). Susanne Plaumann (Vice Central Women’s Representative at TU Berlin), Katrin Schwedes (Director of the advisory centre TERRE DES FEMMES) and Yilmaz Atmaca (group leader for HEROES) discussed the topic with a lively audience. The well-informed and constructive debate covered topics such as different forms of violence, examples from practical experience, intersectionality and possible preventive strategies.

 

“Sexualised Discrimination and Violence in Higher Education – an Issue or not?” on 19 June 2013

A prominently staffed panel came together to discuss “Sexualised Discrimination and Violence in Higher Education – an Issue or not?” (“Sexualisierte Diskriminierung und Gewalt an der Hochschule – (k)ein Thema?“). Katrin List presented a paper on “Sexualised Harassment and Violence at Higher Education Institutions in Germany”. The panellists included David Bowskill (HU Staff Council (“Gesamtpersonalrat”)), Doris Liebscher (Jurist), Susanne Plaumann (Vice Central Women’s Representative at TU Berlin), Dr Sandra Westerburg (Manager of the Presidential Offices, HU) and Sonja Weeber (department for queer_feminism, HU). The interesting debate covered current figures and statistics about sexualised assaults in higher education institutions, real-life cases as well as possible strategies and measures against sexualised discrimination and violence.
